CORDATA GAVIO – F2i PER LA MILANO SERRAVALLE

The Gavio-F2i Alliance for the Milano-Serravalle Highway

Beniamino Gavio, manager of a 2 billion Euro company, is on its way to challenge the Benetton Group to become Italy's largest highway company.
F2i – a fund chaired by Vito Gamberale that operates in infrastructures and includes highways in its scope of action – might join Gavio to carry out his task.
The Province of Milan has recently organised a tender to sell the majority share of Serravalle SpA. If Gavio wins the match with the Impreglio Group, he will achieve – together with Pietro Salini – 50% plus one share of the group, which means a gain of around 480 million Euros for this entrepreneur from Tortona. This is exactly the sum that Gavio, together with Vito Gamberale, plans to use to participate in the tender to acquire the Milano-Serravalle highway. They will be competing against Atlantia – owned by Benetton – for the role of Italy's largest highway company.

F2i: a unique model

F2i, acronim of Fondi italiani per le infrastrutture [Italian Funds for Infrastructure], it’s a unique and original entity
Established in 2007, F2i is the result of a project by Italian manager Vito Gamberale and primary investors such as Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Unicredit, Intesa Sanpaolo, Italian Banking Foundations and Pension Funds. F2i is a SGR (Società di Gestione del Risparmio [an italian form of investment management company] focused on investments in infrastructure in a single country (country fund). F2i represents an entirely new and unique enterprise in the italian background. Since its establishment, F2i has been able to combine the efficiency of a private company with its Institutional nature, aiming to public interest investments.
Since its establishment, F2i is managed by CEO Vito Gamberale; in less than 5 years, F2i First Fund has invested almost its whole availability creating “national champions” in the gas distribution, in the fibre optics and airports fields.
Vito Gamberale has given proof of a remarkable long view, since the achieved results by F2i First Fund speak for itself: F2i managed to invest almost the entire availability (1.852 millions of euros) in advance in respect to the scheduled investment period.
After just 4 years since the Fund’s establishment, F2i created a group of companies which in 2012 scored an aggregate turnover equal to 1,76 million euros and an aggregate EDITDA of 722 million euros, contributing to the return to Italian ownership of assets which are strategic for the country’s development - like Gesac (The Company managing Naples International Airport) from the Spanish company Ferrovial, E. On Rete from the German firm E.On, G6 Rete from GDF Suez (France) and Metroweb from the British fund Sterling Square.
As many times stressed by CEO Vito Gamberale, one of the strenghts and worths of F2i lies in the annual share of EBITDA which the Fund reinvests. In 2012, F2i effectively reinvested more than a half of its EDITDA (57%), employing over 8.300 workers.
The extremely positive goals acheived by F2i First Fund, the wide potential for investments in infrastructure in Italy and the depletion of almost the entire initial availability have created the conditions for the establishment of F2i Second Fund that, with a target of 1,2 million euros, has already collected around a half of the subscriptions.

As is known, F2i Second Fund was established in july 2012 by F2i’s Board of Directors. F2i is a IMCO (Investment Management Company) managed by CEO Vito Gamberale and President Giuliano Asperti. The need for a Second Fund emerged after the First Fund had already invested more than 1.650 million (of its 1.850 availability) in 8 Companies in key national infrastructure sectors (airports, motor ways, gas, water services, TLC, renevable energy, waste to energy).
The article published by Il Sole 24 Ore reports that “F2i’s management, in the last months, has been working for the closing of F2i Second Fund fund raising, which amounts to a total of 1.2 billions of euros”. The newspaper also added that “in these days the first tangible results are emerging”. The closing for the current fund raising, according to Il Sole 24 Ore, should happen in the first half of 2014. With regard to this aspect, the economic newspaper doesn’t keep out  the possible shareholding of foreign investors, “in particular of sovereign funds from the far east”. The newspaper also states that F2i Second Fund “should mainly deal with the waste to energy sector, with airports and motor ways”.

Vito Gamberale’s plan for italian telecommunications

Il Sole 24 Ore (Italian financial newspaper) publishes today, 20 september 2013, an article signed by Carlo Festa entitled “Il piano di [Vito] Gamberale per l’ex monopolista” [“[Vito] Gamberale’s plan for the ex monopolist”. The CEO of F2i – Fondi italiani per le infrastrutture [Italian funds for infrastructures] has taken part yesterday to an Audition in Commissione Lavori pubblici del Senato [Senate’s public works board]. During his speech, Vito Gamberale opened to an alliance between Metroweb and Telecom Italia with the aim to develop ultra broadband services in Italy. Vito Gamberale also focused on the OTT (Over the Top) Operators which, unlike the European TLC groups (“which have to deal with a big amount of competition”), are “distinguished for their very high growth rate, against a limited need of investments”. Talking about Telecom Italia, Vito Gamberale underlined that the issues Telecom is presently facing are not only the shareholders’, but also the Country’s ones. In addition, Vito Gamberale hoped for an unbundling which may have as main goal “the decrease of the Country’s broad band gap” and not “Telecom’s issues”.
